Public Defender’s Office to Reduce Backlog

Clayton County’s Public Defender’s Office aims to reduce backlog with the “Justice System Backlog Reduction Program.” The program will help mitigate the impact of COVID-19, which has caused a significant backlog in all five Clayton County Superior courtrooms and increased long-term occupancy in the Clayton County Jail.

The Public Defender’s Office will use the funding to hire two full-time attorneys, one full-time criminal investigator, and additional staff as funding allows.
